    Notes

The study of humanities spans a variety of academic fields and is not restricted to any one area of research. Our conference aims to look into how interdisciplinarity, the humanities, and communication interact. What’s more, our conference devote to define the shifting connections between these concepts on the one hand, and extend current understanding of various studies on the other. We hope that interdisciplinary research with humanities and communication emphasis can all be traced back to the philosophical foundations of their research and therefore new ideas would be developed.

Research on English Translation of Sichuan Cuisine

Sichuan cuisine, one of the eight famous schools of Chinese cuisine, is popular at home and abroad. With the expanding cultural exchange between Chinese and Western food, the translation of Sichuan cuisine shows its importance. Based on the translation principles of literal translation, free translation, and transliteration, this paper studies the characteristics of the naming and translation of Sichuan cuisine and proposes corresponding translation methods. It is found that the translation strategy is related to the food name. The name of cuisines made up of main ingredients and cooking methods can be translated literally; those named without this information can use free translation; and local specialties can be translated by transliteration. This dissertation is conducive to spreading Sichuan cuisine worldwide.

This kind of cross-cultural communication was undoubtedly very successful at that time. This paper introduces the influence of Bruce Lee, the symbol of the era on the cross-cultural communication mode and the combination of films through the literature summary. Immensity in Trivialness, Integrity in Brokenness --To View The Bapo Painting from The Dimension of Time and Space

The Bapo Painting is a traditional form of art in China. Painters form the pictures by depicting the fragments of cultural relics. In recent years, with the increasing academic interest in "debris" and "ruins", Bapo Painting has also attracted more and more attention from Chinese and foreign scholars. However, as "intentionally-created" fragments, the richness in time and space embodied by Bapo Paintings has rarely been explored. Therefore, this paper will research the temporal and spatial value of the Bapo Painting. On the dimension of time, the Bapo Painting aggregates the past, present, and future. First, the life of the Bapo Painting begins before creation because its subjects are all antiques. Second, the selection and description techniques of fragments in the paintings disclose the social background at the time of creation. Lastly, the fragments on the paintings can trigger people's thoughts about the future destiny of things and their own lives. On the dimension of space, the fragments in Bapo Paintings constitute integrity, showing the dialectical relationship between incompleteness and completeness. From the creator's perspective, the spatial concept reflects a cultural blend of East and West. From the viewer's perspective, the fragments in Bapo Paintings can not only arouse reflection on the overall composition and connotation, but also initiate attempts to reconstruct the noumenon of fragments. Through the integrated perspective of time and space, Bapo Paintings embody the harmony between man and nature as well as the "aesthetics of ruins" that permeates China's cultural genes. Although the Bapo Painting is excluded from the mainstream, it represents the core spirits of traditional Chinese culture.

Apart from its importance in guiding oral communication, it is also pivotal to the expressive power of cinematic art. This paper uses some of the wonderful dialogues in Zootopia as material to explore how the characters in the film violate the principle of cooperation in their conversations, thus making the language scenario realistic and natural, the characters vivid and the effect of the work visible. This paper states that the violation of the cooperative principle contributes to the humorous and sarcastic linguistic style of the characters, as well as to their characterization.

Ethnic and Personal Passing in the Autobiography of an Ex-colored Man

Passing has multiple meanings in African American literature, especially in the area of personal identity in distinct races. In The Autobiography of an Ex-colored Man, James Weldon Johnson describes many aspects of passing, which mainly focus on suspicious of their individual identity and inquisitiveness between two races. Among the series of “passing,” James Weldon Johnson lay emphasis on the ethnic passing, which refers to the particular way that both black and white people used to cross the border of racial segregation, which could help them overcome the difficulties or comprehend the other races. It could be physical, emotional, or even cognitive. On the other hand, Johnson also depicts the characters’ identities passing both from black to white and white to black. This paper analyzed The autobiography of an Ex-colored Man, trying to find out the series of “passing” and their indicated meanings, which may have repercussions for how future scholars interpret this literature.

The Linguistic Saving Hypothesis with the Perception of the Future: Comparing Mandarin Speakers and English Speakers

According to Jaggi’s experiment, there is no significant difference in future perception between two cultures with different future-time references. The proposed study will use the same procedure and measurement as Jaggi’s experiment to provide a different perspective that for cultures that vary a lot in future-time references, there might be a significant difference between future perceptions. We hypothesize that cultures that have a weak future-time reference will perceive that the future is closer to the present and that cultures have a strong future-time reference.
