Analysis of Public Opinion Crisis Control by Mainstream Media During COVID-19

The sudden outbreak of new pneumonia has had a profound impact on the global world and all walks of life. At the same time, it also creates a torrent of public opinion under the mud of information and accelerates the fermentation and loss of control of the Internet public opinion field. Tuchman, a famous scholar, claimed in Doing the News that “news is the constructed reality”, and the mainstream media controls the trend of public opinion when disseminating news. In this paper, public opinion at each stage of the epidemic was analyzed based on the crisis phase analysis theory proposed by Steven Fink. In the face of the epidemic crisis, the mapping of the media plays an important role. Mainstream media should control the public opinion crisis through different discourse strategies and social effects caused by communication methods.

The Significance of David Harvey’s Spatial Theory in Post-modern Architecture in the Context of Ecology and Society: The Example of Las Vegas Architecture

Post-modernist architecture has been the subject of much debate, and a clear definition of it has not been settled. It is also difficult to converge on the views on the association of postmodernism with modernism. On account of its complex and profound theoretical connotations and as a reflection on modernity, postmodernism is concerned with the future and destiny of humanity. The future of post-modern architecture is of great significance to the continuation of human civilization. Few studies have been capable of integrating post-modern architecture with social and ecological perspectives in the prevailing academic vision. This paper will focus on the case where modern architecture and past post-modern architecture no longer meet the demands of both humanity’s social development and environmental protection, drawing on David Harvey’s spatial theory to add ecological protection elements to post-modern architectural design and from the Time-space compression theory to solve the problem of the lack of humanity in past post-modern architecture. It is concluded that improving the transportation networks between architectural spaces or with the exterior and utilizing new materials and structures can bring new dynamics to post-modern architecture.

How Disney Plus Helped Disney out of Financial Crisis

This paper examines the impact of the COVID-19 on The Walt Disney Company and the measures taken by the company, particularly the launch of the streaming service Disney Plus, to mitigate the economic crisis. The pandemic led to the closure of Disney's theme parks worldwide, resulting in significant revenue losses. The film industry also suffered as movie theaters closed and production was disrupted. As a result, Disney's stock price fell, and the company faced financial difficulties. However, the launch of Disney Plus in November 2019 provided a new source of income and profit opportunities. When people had to stay home, the demand for streaming services surged, and Disney Plus capitalized on this trend. As a result, the success of Disney Plus exceeded expectations, surpassing 60 million subscribers by August 2020. The paper analyzes the strategies employed by Disney to promote Disney Plus, including releasing blockbuster films directly on the platform and extensive advertising campaigns across various media channels. The company's public statements emphasizing its commitment to streaming media and its confidence in Disney Plus further contributed to its success. Overall, Disney Plus played a crucial role in mitigating the financial impact of the COVID-19 on The Walt Disney Company.

Breaking the Bound of Cocoon -- A Comparative Study on Black Female Identity in Sula and Yearning

In the influential work, Yearning: Race, Gender, and Cultural Politics, Bell Hooks scrutinizes prevailing Black feminist discourses, emphasizing the hegemony of white feminists, intersecting forms of oppression, and the consequential loss of subjectivity. Nevertheless, hooks’ innovative analysis encounters limitations when addressing the complexities within a literary context. This study conducts a comparative analysis of Black female identity construction, exploring the applicability of hooks’ theoretical framework to Sula, a novel by African American author Toni Morrison. This paper seeks to clarify alleged contradictions and evaluate hooks’ theory in three key aspects: the common predicament of Black female identity, the process of identity formation, and the relationship between identity and social class divisions. The analysis uncovers the necessity of acknowledging the shortcomings of hooks’ arguments when applied to Black feminist literature, such as its inattention to the profound inner struggle originating from cultural constraints in authentic experiences of Black females. Due to distinct writing contexts and backgrounds, Bell Hooks and Toni Morrison diverge in their perspectives on Black female identity, necessitating a closer examination to steer Black feminism towards a more radical path in the future.

“The Aphasia Syndrome”: The Language of Colonialism in Postcolonial English Writings

This paper is an examination of how colonial language and its (after) effects are represented in postcolonial English literature. Two literary works are examined: the Indian diplomat and novelist Vikas Swarup’s Slumdog Millionaire and the Haitian-American writer Edwidge Danticat’s short story “Children of the Sea”. Through close reading and comparative analysis, the paper concludes that there are three main symptoms of language abuse in the colonial context, which it labels as “The Aphasia Syndrome” (TAS). Briefly, the TAS includes (1) the imitation (parrot-talk) of the colonizer’s language as a means of accessing its power and resources; (2) the silencing or suppression of all colonized speech; and (3) the colony’s “nonsensical” ravings, which include the use of indigenous words and expressions without providing translations, as well as the reorganization and reappropriation of signifiers in the privileged language to create indecipherable expressions. By diagnosing TAS and its historical affections on colonized peoples, the paper hopes to excavate the anti-colonial potential inherent in indigenous languages and speech, while advocating a more promising prospect for reconciliation, communication, and healing.

Sustainable Development of Intangible Cultural Heritage Values: A Case Study of Chinese Nuo Opera

As the most important vein of cultural legacy, intangible cultural heritage contributes new cultural thinking and cultural innovation to the growth of cultural creativity in today’s society. However, the current state of intangible cultural heritage sustainability is deplorable. While laws and strategic plans for conserving intangible cultural assets have been implemented in several countries and areas, the sustainability of intangible cultural heritage still requires more in-depth refining and research. Based on the Chinese intangible cultural heritage, Nuo opera, the key research issue in this study is how are the values of intangible cultural heritage being developed sustainably to investigate the sustainable conservation and development of intangible cultural heritage. The main research approach is documentary research and the means that exist today for the transmission and protection of intangible cultural assets, such as Nuo opera, to examine the profound meaning of its development and protection. The most important thing for the sustainable protection of intangible cultural heritage, according to this study, is the identity of its culture, as well as the various values brought by the sustainable development of this cultural heritage, including but not limited to economic value, social value, cultural value, and other important factors. Intangible cultural heritage development must pay more attention to its own cultural values as well as the political elements and economic development needs in the current context, not just to preserve the heritage for the sake of development, but to continuously keep up with the times and dig deeper into its spirit and spiritual core.

The Current Situation and Future Development of Female Images in the Network Media

The progress of the Internet has brought faster and wider dissemination of information, and brought a communication platform for women to show their charm. But the Internet, as a more efficient medium of communication, has also deepened the dilemma of the male gaze for women. The author used summarizing literature as a method, and summarized the current situation, problems and future development of female images on the Internet based on the survey results. The research purpose of this paper is to discover the presentation of female images on the Internet in the current Internet era, discover the existing problems and challenges faced by the current female images on the Internet, and explore the future female images that promote the development of feminism. The problem, according to the study, is that network media focuses on women’s appearance and body, imprisoning women in the male gaze, and women are objectified and lose their own value. In order to further promote the development of feminism, the author believes that women should use the Internet media to spread feminist ideas, the government should strengthen the supervision of the Internet, and culture and education should be improved.

Comparison Between Animal Communication and Language

Language is a structured system that consists of grammar and vocabulary. Although animals communicate with each other, it has remained unsettled that whether animals use language. As Pearce concluded four main elements of language (arbitrariness of units, semanticity, displacement and productivity), this paper aims to evaluate animal communication according to these criteria and figure out their ability to learn language by studying the experiments conducted by scientists before. As a result, this paper found that animal communication met the criterion of semanticity, but failed to meet other criteria, especially the criterion of displacement and productivity, and it is very hard to teach them language. It is argued that they showed no evidence of using language even after they were taught some elements of it. The conclusion indicated that animals do not have language considering the evidence drawn from the studies before. However, it is also suggested that further studies are needed to find a better way to study animal communication and more suitable criteria for them. Signs also showed that animals may develop language referring to these criteria in the future.

General Application of International Treaties in China

The world today is undergoing major changes unprecedented in a century. World multipolarization, economic globalization, social informatization and cultural pluralism are developing in depth, and the pace of reshaping the global pattern and international order is accelerating. As an objective historical process, the globalization of law has also become an irreversible trend of the times, which undoubtedly challenges the traditional theory of the relations between international law and domestic law. Under such a new world pattern, China pursues and advocates a new type of international relations and values, and has always attached great importance to the implementation of international law and related international obligations. However, in China, the study of how to apply treaties is limited to theoretical discussions, there are many uncertainties in judicial practice, and there are still legislative gaps in the hierarchy and method of treaty application in the domestic legal system, which are all issues that need to be solved urgently.

Exploring How the Film Parallel Mothers Represents and Elicits Emotions in the Context of Thinking Theory

There are two types of theories for emotional elicits when watching movies: Seeing Theory, which is based on the plot or characters finding similar references in the real world, and Thinking Theory, which is based on direct empathy for the plot of a movie or additional emotions caused by external factors. Thinking Theory is used to analyze the parallel mothers of the film and to find the factors that lead to the audience’s emotions. The article presents a detailed analysis of the way emotions are evoked in three parts of the film: emotional stimulation, emotional imitation, and involuntary response, respectively, in order to focus on the influence of Central Imaging on emotions in Thinking Theory, which It includes an analysis of why emotional imitation is a non-conscious emotion reproduced through the facial or physical expressions of the characters in the film through mirror neuron theory, and an analysis of the impact of several sequences on emotion through the language of the camera, such as color and long shots. In addition to an analysis of the narrative and footage of the film itself, the essay will discuss the immediate and rapid moral emotions (primarily community ethics) generated from an external perspective and explore why viewers change their emotions about the people around them while watching the film, and why the film generates deeper emotions.

The Rekindling of the Clash of Civilizations – A Debate on Immigration Policy Standing

Supposedly, migrants migrate to a host nation and would become a member of the host nation as they acquire citizenship or residency in the host nation. There shall be no distinction between migrant citizens and non-migrant citizens in the host nations, as they share the same rights and civil responsibilities. Migrant citizens and non-migrant citizens would blend together into the community and society. However, the reality is that migration becomes a social issue as there are debates between political sides in host nations and conflicts between migrants and non-migrants. In order to explore solutions to migration conflicts, this research aims to analyze Huntington’s Clash of Civilizations theory in an immigration setting to argue why a more thoughtful immigration approach based on the culture of the “host” and “guest” is suitable in the current world setting, instead of a liberal approach like Derrida’s cosmopolitanism, and how to execute a thoughtful immigration approach.

Exploring the Shaping of Female Image of “She-theme” Movies and TV Series from the Perspective of "She-economy"-- Taking Just Thirty for an Example

The development of “She-economy” has given birth to “She-theme” movies and TV series, which emphasize women’s right to speak, which has made an important breakthrough in the stereotype of female image shaping in the mass media. However, due to the long-term dominance of male discourse, most creators and audiences of movies and TV series have no clearer cognition of female subject consciousness. It can be found that the female image presented in the existing film and television works on the market is still subject to this. This leads to the development of “She-economy” and the imbalance of women’s right to speak. Therefore, in order to create more progressive “She-theme” movies and TV dramas and realize their sustainable development, this paper researches on female image shaping in “She-theme” has become an important issue. Although the three heroines in Just Thirty can be considered independent women, they are still not free from the stereotypes of women that exist in a patriarchal society, which still requires women to put the family first, take the initiative to take up the task of child-rearing, and sacrifice the development of their own interests for the sake of the family. This paper hopes to arouse the attention of the society on such phenomena.

Dance Postures: Expressions of the Body

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the “Tenth National Congress of the Chinese Literary and Art Circles,” General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that literature and art have been bestowed with abundant nourishment and boundless imaginative space by history. However, writers and artists should not indulge in unfounded imagination when depicting history, nor should they render history void. While it may not be possible to fully recreate the true essence of history, writers and artists have the responsibility to reveal the real historical facts and convey the most valuable elements of history... Only by establishing a correct view of history, respecting history, and presenting historical events in accordance with artistic principles can we stand the test of history, be recognized in the contemporary era, and be passed on to future generations. In comparison, dance, as an integral part of the arts, distinguishes itself from other art forms through its unique “aesthetics of the body” and “body expression.” Within this, the “aesthetic value” and “expressive communication” are dynamically linked between dance postures. Thus, dance postures play a vital role as carriers in dance. Based on this, the thesis re-examines the etymology and definitions of “dance” and “posture” and traces their origins. Drawing upon the research theory of semiotics in dance, it aims to elucidate that dance postures represent the simultaneous expression of body and mind, uniting them through bodily warmth and ethereal force. Similarly, dance postures serve as the dynamic connection between “ecology” and “mentality” under their physical manifestation. They should be placed within the two major systems of “dance historical and cultural morphology” and “dance artistic creative morphology,” exploring them in-depth, in detail, mutually supporting each other, and facilitating development. This construction establishes two intersecting and parallel axes, thereby respecting the laws of historical and artistic development, promoting culture, distinguishing aesthetics, and passing them on to future generations.

Perceiving Falstaff: An Exploration of the Clown Image

Among the many roles in Western drama that originated in ancient Greece, fools occupy a significant place, and its image has been gradually enriched with the development of drama. Beyond simply making the audience laugh, the words and deeds of clowns seem to have a deeper meaning, which can arouse people’s resonance and reflection. Starting from the origin of drama and the development analysis of the image of clowns, this article aims to analyze the complex connotation behind Falstaff, the classic fool chosen from Shakespeare’s play Henry IV, in detail from multiple perspectives. The vivid image of Falstaff in Shakespeare’s work is a transcendence of the early clowns. At the same time, Falstaff also conveys the humanist ideals of the author.
