Adult Extracurricular Piano Learner’s Motivation and Influence Factors Analysis

The boom of amateur piano learning in China began in the early days of reform and opening up, and its “enthusiasm” has continued to this day. The age of 4-6 is usually considered as the golden age of piano enlightenment, but for adults who missed the golden age of enlightenment and have entered the society, there are not few people who use their spare time to learn piano in order to realize their piano dream. This paper uses qualitative research methods to interview four students, and analyzes and elaborates the factors that affect their learning effects in a summary way. The interviewees were interviewed in their native Mandarin, and the interviewees truthfully recorded their true views on the questions they asked. According to the answers of the interviewees and the objective analysis of the interviewees, the influencing factors of adult amateur piano learning can be summarized into the following four points: motivation and reasons for piano learning; The benefits of learning the piano; Difficulties in learning the piano; Teacher student relationship in learning piano.

    Fake News Detection and Analysis

The popularized use of social media accelerates the spreading of fake news. The overwhelming amount of fake news was a severe social issue during the 2016 presidential election and the first outbreak of Coronavirus in 2020. As controlling the spread of fake news is not practically workable, the detection of fake news is significantly valuable to solve this issue. In this paper, we conduct experiments to discover the effect of contextualized embedding of news content on counterfeit news detection. We also explore the features of fake news through two aspects: clickbait and sentiment.

Autonomy and Moral Emotion — A Response to the Conciliatory Proposition of Kant`s Morality

German philosopher Kant, in his moral philosophy, made a clear distinction between categorical imperative and hypothetical imperative. Under his three propositions of morality, Kant argued that only actions motivated by maxims (or moral principles) rather than any other emotional feelings could produce moral worth. Since then, the criticism from Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, and a series of reconciling propositions from other later scholars such as Paten, Henson towards such Kantian dichotomy have never ended. This sets the main focus of my article. The article is divided into three parts: the first part expounds the content and ethical basis of Kantian philosophy by explaining the epistemological gap between noumenon and phenomenon. The second part focuses on four different reconciling propositions proposed by Paton, Henson, Herman, and Allison as well as their shared issue: they all try to revise the conclusion within Kantian philosophy in a theory of motivation outside the Kantian philosophy. By tracing back to the three propositions and the relationship between autonomy and heteronomy, the last part offers the article’s own argument: though Kant denies emotion as a motivation to produce moral worth, he does not exclude it from the inevitable concomitant from phenomena.

A Proposal of Body-Specificity Hypothesis in Chinese Culture: Does Mandarin Have Different Metaphors in Handedness??

This paper shows the different results of the Body-Specificity Hypothesis in Chinese culture. Chinese have other metaphors on the left and suitable compared to western countries, which may affect their choice of the “dominant hand side as the positive side.” In this paper, we settle an experiment, and the results show that culture will influence people. A Chinese person, even a right-handed person, will think that the left side symbolizes the positive side (And different ages will have different degrees of cultural influence). Chinese participants show the opposite result due to their diverse culture from western countries.

From Descartes to Hume: Existence Cognition in the Context of Pre-Kantian Epistemology

In order to explore the function of Kant as a ‘reservoir’ in the history of philosophy, this paper reviews the thought of several important philosophers who preceded him from an interpretive perspective. It analyses Descartes’ ‘I think, therefore I am’, mainly in terms of the ‘unity of subject and object’, and then examines how Hume’s refinement of empiricism was transformed by the influence of purely theoretical thinking. Finally, the two are explained in the context of Kant’s thought, which leads to subsequent developments.

The Historical Development and Characteristics of the Architectural Formation of Ancient Academies in Northern Fujian

With the development of Chinese traditional ideology and culture and the changes in history, whether it is from the contention of a hundred schools of thought to the unique branch of Confucianism to the development of Neo-Confucianism, the architecture of the academy always carries and shows the context of its development. At the same time, traces of regional culture and cultural and historical development are imprinted. Research on the origin and diversity of academic architectural forms can protect and inherit the historical context of the academy. Through field investigation and literature research, the article takes several representative academies in northern Fujian as examples. Rethinking the Long Standing Phenomenon of Silent Chinese Students Supported by the Cultural Dimensions Theory of Hofstede

This article examines this phenomenon after studying the previous literature on silent students. With the surge in the number of Chinese students, more and more foreign universities have their presence, so the characteristics of Chinese student groups have become a favorite research direction of many Western scholars. The main arguments of this paper are 1) The impression of Chinese students can be summarized by the following keywords: silent, passive, and inflexible; 2) Although the descriptions are close to reality, most of the current research is limited to criticizing and judging arbitrarily, which makes these studies inevitably one-sided, self-righteous, and therefore lacking a comprehensive attitude; 3) Different cultural heritage and historical backgrounds will cause significant differences in the characteristics of local people; 4) The characteristics of Chinese students must not necessarily be negative. Consequently, this article reconsiders this problem from another perspective of cultural dimension theory. In the analysis process, this paper shows the differences between Chinese and Western cultures with the help of Hofstede’s cultural dimension theory. It makes a comprehensive analysis based on China’s socioeconomic and political conditions. Therefore, this paper contributes to putting forward some suggestions to improve the current education situation, emphasizing the significance of family and social education for students’ growth and character development.

Historical and Modern Catalysts of the HK Refugee Dilemma

To explain the causes of local “anti-refugee” sentiment propagated throughout local Hong Kong, this article delves into historical deadlocks – notably the cultural revolution and influx of Vietnamese boat people – that led the city’s attitudes to transition from relatively lax policies into strict regulations and negative media portrayal still present today. Yet, the present-day Hong Kong protests are brought into context to explain the slight generational gap in refugee sentiment. Finally, the Hong Kong refugee dilemma is brought into context compared with similar deadlocks in Norway and Germany to suggest an optimal mode of action moving forward.

Comparative Analysis of Chinese “Bei” Construction and Japanese Passive Tense Based on the Type of Patient

Comparative analysis has always been a hot topic in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), however most studies focus more on comparing language structures between Chinese and English, with less attention to the Chinese and Japanese. Therefore, the present study will do a comparative analysis between Chinese “Bei” construction and Japanese passive tense based on the type of patient to firstly find the interaction between structure form and function, then analyze the differences and similarities, finally using examples from the HSK dynamic composition corpus to discuss the underlying reason for causing acquisition errors by Japanese Chinese learners.

The Double Reduction Policy: A Counter-effective Effort to Reduce the Pressure on China’s Involuted Generation

In July 2021 the Chinese government implemented the Double Reduction Policy which aims to reduce the burden of excessive homework and after-school tutoring on students at the compulsory education level. However, the policy does not seem to have positive effects but rather increases the pressure and anxiety of students and their parents as the policymakers failed to consider the social problem of involution in China. While it is widely believed by Chinese people that a university education is an essential life task and is closely associated with socioeconomic development, students work hard in order to perform well in The High School Entrance Examination (Zhongkao) and The National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao), however, the implementation of the Double Reduction Policy hinders them from ‘working hard’.

    The First Nature of Language

The first nature of language function is often considered to be communication. But with the rise of cognitive linguistics, whether the primary function of language is externalized communication or internalized thinking has been re-examined. This paper focused on what is the first function of language, and argued that the thinking function should remain the top priority. Based on theories of generative grammar from Noam Chomsky, it redefines the key concepts of language, thinking, and communication, discusses the superiority of language for thinking and the shortcomings of language for communication, and reveals the direction of language evolution by natural selection, and compile a series of evidence to justify the top status of thinking function by comparing the common people’s thinking ability and the auditory disabled’s thinking ability. Besides, another possible communicative pattern, direct brain-to-brain communication (DBBC) was also introduced to prove there might emerge a better way for communication. It is hoped that this will paint a possible picture of the development of language function science and provide an organic extension for the subsequent discovery of language function. At the end the paper finds out the first nature of thinking is plausible and tangible, conforming to the evolutionary tendency of human language. More researches are expected to provide more direct proofs approving the arguments.

Analysis on the Communication Routes and Influence of the Y2K Style as a Subculture in the New Era

Since 2018, Y2K (Year 2 Kilo), which was popular from the end of the last century to the beginning of this century, has made a comeback. Relying on social media and the Y2K subculture community, the new round of Y2K fashion has become a hot topic on the Internet. In addition, with the help of celebrities and Internet celebrities, Y2k has been widely spread. Its community has been expanding, subculture groups and some Y2K women use it to express themselves, but the wide spread of Y2K has also brought negative influence. This paper analyzes the formation, history, communication routes, and influence of Y2K. In addition, it explores the communication routes and influence of Y2K in the new era by combining it with relevant literature. It is found that the communication of Y2K relies on the Y2K subculture community formed by the subculture and Generation Z group, in which celebrities and influencers act as communication gatekeepers. Under the agenda set by the capital, people in the community encode and decode Y2K clothes as symbols and engender Y2K spiritual connotations. Then, the spirit spreads within and outside the community and generate both positive and negative impact.

A Study of Interactive Teaching in High School English Classrooms

China's traditional high school English classroom teaching mode is teacher-oriented, based on the knowledge of the textbook, with a single learning method, and students are in a state of passively receiving knowledge in the classroom, unconsciously cooperating with the teacher to complete the classroom teaching tasks. Such a classroom in which the teacher can not well stimulate students' learning motivation, is not conducive to the play of student subjectivity, resulting in low student learning efficiency, the learning effect is not as satisfactory. At the same time, too single teaching methods are not conducive to the cultivation of students' spirit of exploration, creativity and practical skills. Based on this, this paper uses case analysis method to study how to improve teaching quality and students' learning enthusiasm through interactive teaching in high school English classroom, and concludes that the test-oriented teaching method should not be used in the interactive teaching of high school English classroom, and should pay attention to the interaction with students, and actively innovate teaching methods, among which game teaching method and scenario teaching method can effectively promote teacher-student interaction, and enable students to generate interest in learning and improve learning efficiency.

A Study on the Correlation Between Third-wave Feminism and the Riot Grrrl Movement in the 1990s in the United States by Analyzing Bikini Kill and Bratmobile

The main goal of this paper is to dive into the 1990s and try to understand the interrelation between third-wave feminism and the musical and political movement, Riot Grrrl, through careful analysis of two representative bands of the movement. With the understanding established, the paper would then try to analyze the reasons why the movement was ephemeral. Bikini Kill and Bratmobile, two specific bands symbolic of the Riot Grrrl movement would be investigated to appreciate the values of the movement with an analysis of their songs’ lyrics and live performances. Another close look at the mainstream media as well as male rock stars and listeners would be taken with the hope of gaining specific insights into the reasons and steps for the rapid decline of the movement. The result of the study shows a complex relationship between the Riot Grrrl movement and third-wave feminism that happened around the same period, in which neither one was fully dependent on the other and both promoted the improvement of the other. The ephemeral existence of the Riot Grrrl movement was also a direct cause of the young activists, weary of misinterpreted publicity, choosing their results not by their own will, but due to pressure from public media. In the intercorrelation of third-wave feminism and the Riot Grrrl movement, both movements affected each other in a way that feminism provided the foundation for which Riot Grrrl movement and Riot Grrrl reversely provided strength and intensity third-wave feminism with its distinct features of directness as well as auditory and visual violence. Despite similarities between the two, the Riot Grrrl movement eventually diverges away from third-wave feminism, withering away from history due to criticism that resulted in Riot Grrrl’s rejection of the mainstream criticism and misrepresentation of their images while leaving remnants of their rebellious spirit and distinct music that people today still are affected by.

Research on the Impact of Cultural Values on Social Interaction in Chinese Education

Confucianism, a philosophy and belief system founded by Confucius in ancient China, emphasizes the importance of having a good moral character. Cultural values are deeply embedded in the daily interactions of Chinese people. Unfortunately, some Confucian ethics have been misinterpreted and become a tool of "mind control," which tends to control one's thoughts and insert unwanted thoughts in others. This study aims to highlight the issues in Chinese education concepts that are heavily influenced by cultural values and the psychological concept of mind control, as well as how they impact children's psychological development and behaviors. It also offers some recommendations on how to create a good learning environment. It can be concluded that cultural values significantly impact social interaction in China.

The Influence of Misogyny on the Development of Feminism in Media Communication -- A Case Study of Feminist Attitudes Towards Female Images

The research focuses on the labeling description of feminism in media communication, exploring under the current situation, whether the promotion of new female images and the negation of traditional female images are helpful for modern women to truly understand themselves. Through the qualitative interview, it is found that most feminists in the 20-30 age group have good expectations for social diversification and de-labeling, but unconsciously distinguish themselves from traditional female images and dislike them. To study and discuss whether this psychological phenomenon causes a new round of “female oppression” under the contemporary media evaluation system, and whether it can really help women to understand the relationship between themselves and move towards true independence. At the same time, does media communication strengthen the public’s negative impression of feminism in the development process of feminism, associating feminism with labels such as “radical” and “strong”? This paper hopes to explore how women can better understand their own needs and achieve real equality in the future, and put forward suggestions and expectations for the behavior of media communication in its development.

Ethnography Research on Reddit Moderators’ Gatekeeper Role Within the Online Transcultural K-pop Fandom Community in Anglophone Countries

The remarkable development of digital and mobile devices accelerates the prevalence of both popular cultures worldwide. In this digital era, the emergence of social media enables individuals to access to a variety of information and experience innovative behaviours, such as participating in an online transcultural fandom community. As South Korea continues to export its popular culture, Hallyu, from Korean drama to Korean popular music (K-pop), the audience of the Korean Wave has expanded from Asia to other continents. Especially in those anglophone countries, the fan base has reached a noticeable scale with the help of the online fandom community. Notably, on hierarchical social media platforms, the gatekeeping effect exists in the online K-pop fandom community, and all community members perform in an established manner. In order to identify the causes of this phenomenon, this paper applies the ethnographic approach to obverse and analyse the speech of all participants within an online transcultural fandom community called /r/ bangtan on Reddit. Moderators’ gatekeeping power is contributed by the hierarchical relationship within the community, all community members’ awareness and acknowledgment of their schema, their unlimited social capital resulting from their unbiasedness to the community and interpersonal skills, superior accumulated knowledge about the object of fandom, as well as linguistic, cultural, and geographic boundaries in the transcultural context. Finally, some possible recommendations are provided for moderators to manage their online fandom communities on hierarchical social media platforms, including knowledge accumulation about celebrities and related languages, interpersonal capability development, and unbiased treatments.

An Analysis of Cyberbullying —A Case of the Pink Hair Girl Incident

In China’s social media, Zheng Linghua suffered from negative comments and cyber violence for her pink hair colour. By basing upon this pink hair girl incident, this essay will talk about the anonymity of social media and connects this particularity of online community with misogynous comments. On social media, anonymity could diminish the emotional connection between comment recipients and comment senders and reduce the effect of taboo. As result, anonymity contributes to the raising of negative comments, enlarges the disparity between recipient and commenters and encourages the use of words relative to sexual humiliation. And the over-continuing conflict shown in this incident is also researched in this essay. It is the gift-return violence which keeps the online conflict going. This essay finds that for constituting a peaceful and friendly online community, it requires many efforts coming from different aspects. And it is important to see women’s power and to let people realize the difference between real life and online life.
