Tracing the Pathways: The Geographical Evolution of Confucian Culture in East Asia

Confucianism emerged during significant social and political upheaval in ancient China, known as the Eastern Zhou period (770–256 BCE). The teachings of Confucius (Kong Fuzi or Kongzi) laid the foundation for this philosophical tradition, emphasizing moral values, proper conduct, and cultivating virtues. Confucianism, a philosophical and ethical system originating from ancient China, has exerted a profound influence not only within China but also across East Asia. Since its inception, Confucianism has undergone various transformations and adaptations, influenced by historical events, cultural exchanges, and geographical conditions. The study investigates the geographical evolution of Confucian culture in East Asia to understand its regional dynamics over time better. This research aims to unravel the complex interplay between geographical factors and the development of Confucian thought in diverse regional contexts in East Asia. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on fields such as history, geography, anthropology, and philosophy, this study demonstrates that geographical features, such as terrain, climate, and proximity to other cultures, have shaped the adaptation and transformation of Confucianism in different regions. Additionally, the research examines how Confucian values and practices have been integrated into local cultures and societies, exploring the variations and commonalities across various geographical settings. Ultimately, this investigation contributes to a deeper understanding of the dynamic relationship between geography and cultural evolution, with implications for our understanding of Confucianism's enduring significance globally.

Japanese Colonial Migration in China and Its Long-term Impacts on Sino-Japan Trade

Japanese colonial migration in China is a significant component of Japan’s colonial movements in China between 1931 to 1945. Previous research shows that it may influence the post-war commercial cooperation between two countries This research is intended to explore the long-term effect of Japan’s colonial migration on Sino-Japan trade in different Chinese regions, thus partially filling the academic vacuum in related fields and possibly providing new ideas for macro strategies design. Methods of data analysis and graphing are implemented in the analysis process. The findings are Japan’s colonial migration mainly promotes Sino-Japan trade and the effect of promotion is positively correlated with migration scale. Export markets and regions less open to the world market are influenced by this effect most. However, in general, the influence of migration is limited because the major factors of trade are cost, profit and demand. In some regions, the violence of the migration leads to historic hatred, negatively impacting Sino-Japan trade.

Modernity under the Alias 'Oriental Bismarck' of Li Hongzhang: The Lack of Cultural Subjectivity and the Reconstruction of Nationalism

As a prominent politician of the late Qing dynasty, Li Hongzhang possessed numerous aliases, among which "Oriental Bismarck" holds a special significance. This appellation not only reflects the shift in the Chinese evaluation system of historical figures from traditional modes under the influence of Orientalism but also implies the consciousness and practice of nationalism in the modernization model of developing countries. Against the backdrop of the wave of colonialism and the statism vision of self-improvement, concepts like "Oriental-someone/something" in Chinese context embody a loss of cultural subjectivity of the traditional Chinese discourse power. Simultaneously, it reveals that, amidst the entanglement between the old China and the West, certain foreign elements and cultural symbols could be useful to construct the modernity and to affirm the uniqueness of China itself, by relying on nationalism. By analyzing the cultural significance and historical ruptures behind appellations like "Oriental Bismarck," this article adopts a postmodern historical perspective to criticize simplistic interpretations of modernization theory and explores how these appellations serve as important windows for studying the construction of history and modernity.

As a result, this paper adopts the comparative analysis method, normative analysis method and other research methods to analyze the issue and make suggestions on the direction of China's legislation.

Exploring Differences in Automotive Logo Design Between Chinese and Western Cultures Based on Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Theory

This paper, based on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory, provides a cultural perspective on understanding domestic automotive design by comparing the differences between Chinese and Western cultures. The analysis of cultural dimension indexes in both Chinese and Western contexts reveals significant differences in IDV (individualism), MAS (masculinity), and LTO (long-term orientation). Through the comparison of three aspects: individualism vs collectivism, long-term vs short-term orientation, and long-term orientation vs short-term orientation, this paper explores the differences in automotive logo design resulting from variations in design form, aesthetic, and concept due to cultural disparities between China and the West. Additionally, well-known automotive brand cases in the market are cited for analysis. Based on the disparities in Chinese and Western cultures, this paper proposes that through cultural cross-pollination, domestic automotive logo designs can break away from homogeneity, offering insights for domestic automotive brands to expand into overseas markets through distinctive logo designs.

Using the Media to Identify Invisible Problems of the Gender Sphere

The fast-developing network era has brought unprecedented cultural impact to the masses, and people have also gained more knowledge through digital production, even breaking many information gaps to a certain extent. The reporting and reprinting of hot and negative news, which are more likely to attract attention, have also brought to light many invisible problems of gender in society, including the protection of women's rights and the inequality of marital relations. In this article, we conducted interviews with some specific groups of people from different backgrounds through online questionnaires to understand how people from different backgrounds use social media to find out about marital or gender issues and the mutual influence between them and the media. The results showed positive media coverage can promote social support for victims and condemnation of domestic violence. Discussions of sexual harassment in social media productions also help to increase public awareness of sexual harassment and encourage victims to come forward.

Intercultural Communication Competence: Theoretical Exploration and Practical Application from the Perspective of Foreign Language Education

As globalization continues to deepen, intercultural communication competence has become an indispensable key skill in international exchange and cooperation. This paper aims to explore the theoretical construction of intercultural communication competence and its practical application in foreign language education. By synthesizing reviews of relevant literature from both domestic and international sources, this paper proposes an interactive theoretical model of intercultural communication competence that integrates the dimensions of attitude, knowledge, and skills. The model emphasizes the dialogic nature of intercultural communication, the equality of cultures, and the dialectical combination of globalization and localization. Based on this, the paper further develops a practical model that organically integrates intercultural communication competence, teaching segments, and teaching activities into a three-ring structure, providing a specific operational framework for the cultivation of intercultural communication competence in foreign language teaching. Through empirical research, this paper has verified the application effect of the proposed model in college English teaching. The results indicate that the model can effectively enhance students' intercultural awareness, knowledge acquisition, and communication skills. Finally, the paper puts forward a series of teaching suggestions aimed at promoting the comprehensive development of intercultural communication competence in foreign language education and points out directions for future research and practice.

Exploring the Variation of Third Tone Sandhi in Native Chinese Mandarin: An Acoustic Analysis

Tone is one of the most prominent, distinctive, and significant properties of the Chinese language. In the realm of tone sandhi, one of the most interesting phenomena is the Tone 3 sandhi (T3). T3 sandhi is one of the rules in the phonological change, a low T3 syllable inevitably changes to a rising tone (T2) when it is followed by another T3 syllable. This study aims to investigate the underlying mechanism of the third tone (T3) sandhi in Mandarin Chinese, comparing the acoustic features in both real words and pseudowords. The current study employed a qualitative descriptive method and PRAAT6310 acoustic analysis software. The findings of the study demonstrated that T3 sandhi in real words of the Chinese language resembles pseudowords and is likely computed naturally in a phonological cognition process. This research provides an important reference value for research in the fields of tonal variation in Chinese language and language acquisition.
