On the Absurdity and Reality in Kafka's "The Castle"

The 20th-century capitalist world was turbulent and crisis-ridden, and Western literary creation as a whole presented a state of nihilism, loneliness, loss, and anxiety. Many writers regarded ugliness as beauty, using absurdity to represent reality, among whom Kafka was one. "The Castle," as a representative of his short stories, constructs many bizarre events that do not exist in real life, enhancing the absurdity of the work. The author combines absurdity with reality, integrating philosophical parables and his own real-life reflections into the work, aiming to express the ruthless satire on human indifference as well as a deep call for genuine human emotions.

How Dialects of Chinese Language Influence L1-Speakers’ Phonological and Phonetic Acquisition of English

There have been many studies concerning Chinese dialects’ influence on the learning of English sounds. However, it is widely believed that Chinese dialect speakers always face greater difficulties when learning English than Mandarin speakers, which is rebutted through this research, to some degree. The study tests the English repeating ability of speakers native to Wenzhou Wu, a dialect with a significant difference, and native to Tianjin Mandarin, which is very similar to Putonghua. The study compares the phonology of these two dialects and English and assumes that both of these dialects influence the acquisition of certain sounds of English. L1 speakers of these two dialects, who have not been exposed to English before, are asked to repeat the recording of English words, and through phonetic analysis of the material, we can find the difference in these candidates’ ability to acquire these sounds. The results show that the two branches of the Chinese language are found to both facilitate and obstacle native speakers’ SLA in different aspects.

A Study of Female Images in Tangled

Disney’s classic animated film Tangled is based on an American fairy tale, telling the story of Rapunzel, a fragile girl imprisoned by a witch, who transforms into a brave new-era woman pursuing her own happiness. The protagonist, Rapunzel, relies on her own effort and wisdom, daring to break with conventions and free herself from bondage. The witch, Mother Gothel, is the villainous character in the film, who imprisons Rapunzel in a tower and exploits her magical powers for her own benefit. From the perspective of feminism, this thesis makes a detailed analysis of the female images in Tangled, interprets feminism while analyzing the images, and explores the significance of Disney Princess animated films in spreading feminism. Tangled reflects the oppression of women and the awakening of women’s self-consciousness. Analyzing film and television works in the new era with the help of feminist theories can also help us further analyze women’s thoughts in the new era through the shaping of female roles.

Research on the Construction of Revolutionary Cultural Heritage Knowledge Graph and the Application of Digital Cultural Innovation

The digital innovative activation and application of traditional revolutionary cultural heritage in China is a targeted cultural heritage protection work, but designers find it difficult to use existing knowledge data to develop resource related creative designs. The genetic value of memes is essential in the innovation and activation of revolutionary cultural heritage. This paper proposes a collaborative system of knowledge graph and creative design for the digital innovative activation and application of revolutionary cultural heritage. Firstly, the entity units and relational logic of the knowledge graph are defined based on the concept of memes. Then, the digital creative design model is formed by integrating knowledge graph results, and the design data of memes is extracted for reorganization and translation, thereby the overall grasp, management, and application capability of designers on revolutionary cultural heritage knowledge data could be enhanced. Ultimately, the project of the Key Component of National Long March Cultural Park in Guizhou is taken as an application case to verify the hypothesis. The results indicate that this method can be effectively used to the knowledge integration of revolutionary cultural heritage digitalization and the application of meme inheritance, which promotes the further activation and application of digital innovation. This study could contribute to the development of digital innovation theory for the cultural industry.

A Study of the Plight of Media Industry Interns: Manufactured Consent in the Labor Process

The media industry is currently undergoing industrial upgrading and transformation, with some traditional positions at risk of being replaced by automation and digitization. Therefore, younger employees who are more aware of the new situation are required. Besides, media companies are facing the challenge of declining revenues since the COVID-19 outbreak has put pressure on the media market. Overall, employment opportunities have been affected in the short term but changes and developments in the industry will bring new employment needs and opportunities. In this case, interns become an important part of the media industry workforce. This paper analyzes the social factors behind the "ideal game" and youth anxiety in the media industry from the perspective of "labor consent". Findings show that interns in the media industry in the digital age are expected to be "progressive", but the reality reflects a conflict between high expectations and de-skilled work, as well as a contradiction between the desire for self-control over a lifetime and the possession of the body. The overemphasis on the quantity of work experience possessed by workers leads to a neglect of quality, and quantitative rationality becomes a paradox of work experience. Under unbalanced conditions of supply and demand, false "labor consent" created by the "ideal game" is manufactured among young people. They repeatedly engage in de-skilled work in an attempt to accumulate internships in order to secure a future of discretionary time.

Research on Vietnam’s Demographic Dividend Period

Currently, Vietnam is in a demographic dividend period. After reaching 90 million in 2013, Vietnam's population hit the milestone of 100 million in 2023. Surpassing the mark of nearly a hundred million people represents a significant event in Vietnam's demographic history, positioning Vietnam as the fifteenth most populous country globally and among the top three in Southeast Asia. With a population nearing a hundred million, the duration of Vietnam's demographic dividend period is expected to extend until around 2042. Approximately 67% of Vietnam's population is of working age. The main characteristics of Vietnam's demographic dividend period are its long duration, uneven development, and aging population advancing ahead of modernization. The demographic dividend period not only provides Vietnam with an abundance of human resources for its socio-economic development but also facilitates increased investment in areas such as livelihoods, healthcare, education, and employment. Vietnam should seize the opportunity of the demographic dividend period, pay more attention to and understand population issues, and mitigate the risk of "aging before prosperity."
