On the Enlightenment Movement: The Impact on Western Society and the Social Problems Brought by the Lack of Chinese Enlightenment

In his article "What is Enlightenment", Foucault once said, "By explaining it this way, people can discover a starting point for analysis, which is to describe people's so-called attitudes towards modernity.". The Enlightenment legitimized human rights, and with the Enlightenment as the boundary, humanity entered a stage of modernity. Modern human rights ideology was initially established, and Western social life underwent earth-shaking changes. It also impacted China as far away as the East, as the ideas of the Enlightenment formed the cornerstone of modern society and established the embryonic form of modern society. Although China has been affected by this, due to the lack of philosophical education, people only have a vague understanding of concepts such as human rights, democracy, freedom, and so on, without a profound understanding, which has led to some social problems in China being particularly prominent compared to the West. This article explores the issue of legalization in the Enlightenment by analyzing the ideological context before and after the Enlightenment, focusing specifically on human rights. It also attempts to categorize the concept of power during the Enlightenment period and explore several types of power in human society, discussing the impact of the Enlightenment from the above points. Afterward, this article attempts to analyze the impact of the Enlightenment on Western society, using the presence or absence of the Enlightenment as a variable. As a comparison, it analyzes some social problems in China caused by the lack of popularization of knowledge and philosophical education related to the Enlightenment.

Back to Divination Practice: Cross-Cultural Characteristics of Dunhuang Birdsong Divination Book IOLTibJ747

Divination, as an important component of Chinese philosophy, plays an important role in reflecting the complex historical background in history and folklore. Especially in the Dunhuang region, which has experience in cross-cultural communication, the divination books unearthed from it have high reference value for understanding the complex historical background of Dunhuang at that time. This article selects the Dunhuang Birdsong Divination Book IOLTibJ747 as the research object, and through text analysis and historical analysis, re-examines the living conditions of the Dunhuang people during the Tibetan rule and the influence reflected by cross-cultural experiences. On the one hand, this article believes that IOLTibJ747 has a multilingual nature and integrates folk tales born in various cultural backgrounds, as well as the cross-cultural experience of the Dunhuang region during Tibetan rule in terms of bird species selection. On the other hand, this article believes that IOLTibJ747's emphasis on the spatiotemporal coordinates of divination and the selection of divination themes both point to the historical fact that war was the main topic of people's life in the Dunhuang region during the Tibetan rule. This article has certain reference value for exploring academic approaches to cross-cultural research, international relations research, and social history research through Zi Xue academic literature.

Research on the Lasting “Legacies” of Enlightenment: A Double-edged Sword to Modern Society

It is already common sense that the Enlightenment has brought huge improvement to human society both ideologically and physically and numerous scholars have discussed it before. However, the main aim of this article is to discover the real contributions of the Enlightenment and explore its limitations to our modern life. Think about what can be learned from the Enlightenment and what needs to be avoided in future political movements. The article will discuss the ‘lasting legacies’ of Enlightenment in three aspects: Arts, Economics, and Women's Rights and then focus on the negative sides of Enlightenment at the end. This essay may not cover all the political philosophers during the Enlightenment, so there are some limitations to the conclusions. Moreover, since political movements have developed differently in different eras, some of these conclusions may not apply to today’s society, but it can provide some references for scholars to study.

Spacial Choices of Queer Urban Space: A Look into Queer Nightlife Establishments in China

This study examines the dynamics of queer public space in Chengdu, a major Chinese city. Considering the availability of access to different queer public spaces in China, we focus on Chengdu's night venue, entertainment, and digital public space and investigate their significance in creating queer community and sense of belonging. Observation, interviews, case studies, and document review is used to explore the queer space in Chengdu and reveal the obstacles queer community face when constituting safe queer space under the relatively oppressive ideology of the country. Investigating the problems through the lens of multi-disciplines such as urban sociology and gender studies, we take a view of the queer public space itself from an urban planning perspective which examines its design rationality as pure space constitution and analyzes the driving force for such design in gender studies perspective which involves discussion of intersectionality and analysis of patriarchal society. The queer urban space serves a critical function for the queer community by gathering the scattered population and providing a safe space to express their identities. By investigating the contemporary queer public space in Chengdu and making comparisons with that in other countries, this study uncovers the struggle and efforts of the queer community to establish their safe public space in combat with the heteronormative society.

Analyzing the Characters in the Dream of the Red Mansion and Jane Eyre from the Perspective of Feminism

Feminism not only has many manifestations in theory but also in practical life. This paper explores feminism from the perspective of literary works from both East and West. In the East, although feminism was influenced very late, it began to sprout as early as the feudal society. The feminism of this period was closed, not bold, and oppressive. Cao Xueqin's "Dream of the Red Chamber" can become an encyclopedia of Chinese feudal society. Feminism is manifested in all aspects here. When China was in a backward feudal period, Western societies such as Britain and France had already begun a vigorous bourgeois revolution. Women are already openly and boldly fighting for democracy, freedom, and liberation. British writer Charlotte Bronte, influenced by the idea of compromise and combining her own personal experience, wrote the masterpiece Jane Eyre. This paper analyzed the characters in Dream of the Red Mansion and Jane Eyre from the perspective of feminism.

Female Non-Resistance to Sexual Harassment -- An Evolutionary Psychology Perspective

Sexual harassment is a pervasive problem that affects individuals in a variety of social contexts, especially in the workplace and public spaces. Researcher has examined the complex phenomenon of women's non-resistance to sexual harassment and explore in depth the psychological, sociocultural and reproductive factors that lead women to not actively oppose or confront sexual harassment. Drawing on both evolutionary and survival perspectives, the paper explores the complex interplay between reproductive strategies, survival motivations, and social norms. Through the survey-based approach, we qualify the relationship between the women's varying responses to sexual harassment and harasser's social-economic status and physical appearance, taking into account scenarios in the workplace, campus, and public spaces. The results showed that women's resistance to sexual harassment changed with the various degrees of social status and appearance of the harasser. The implications of this research extend to understanding gender dynamics, workplace policies, and the social impact of sexual harassment. The study also acknowledges the limitations of sample representation and cultural context, providing avenues for future research on this important and sensitive topic. By revealing the multifaceted nature of non-resistance, it helps to understand women’s experiences and decisions more fully in the face of sexual harassment.

A Parallel Comparison Between the Social Status of Sogdian and Chinese Aristocratic Women in Tang Dynasty

Sogdians were active in commercial activities on the “Silk Road” in Tang and Song Dynasty of China. The interaction between Sogdians and Chinese promotes the exchange and development of both cultures, which resulted in some shared similarities between them, including the social status of women. However, further research is required to compare the social status of Sogdian and Chinese aristocratic women. This contributes to better knowledge about the family structure and marital relationships in Tang Dynasty, enabling researchers to reconstruct the life of aristocratic Sogdians and Chinese. In this paper, the term social status is deconstructed into female literacy, marital autonomy, and accessibility to the property. Two Sogdian ancient letters, one Tang epitaph, and several Sogdian and Chinese legal documents are analyzed from the three aspects. In conclusion, both Sogdian and Chinese aristocratic women enjoyed relatively higher social status in Tang Dynasty. Sogdian women were slightly superior to Chinese women, as they had more agency to divorce. Nevertheless, their relatively higher social statuses were not common across the entire gender and were still not comparable to their male counterparts.

Analysis of AIGC in Film and Television Production

The development of film and television is inextricably connected to the progress of science and technology. This paper commences by examining the utilization of AIGC in film and television production and its effects on the sector. It is determined that the implementation of AIGC in script production, scene production, post-production, and other areas reduces a great deal of time, production, and labour expenses, broadens the scope of film and television production, and offers the potential for inexpensive mass film and television production. Despite the progress made in the film and television industry, AIGC still has to confront problems such as a lack of logical consistency and emotional detachment, which necessitates human creators. It may also lead to the disappearance of creative works, a copyright crisis and the impairment of labour rights, with the risk of massive unemployment. It is essential to investigate the provisions of AIGC Guidelines.

Unveiling Cross-Cultural Hidden Nexus: An Analysis of China’s Contribution to the Cultural Influence of the East on the West

Even though the cultural communication between Japan and Europe is massively documented, such as the impact of ukiyo-e prints on Impressionism, Chinese culture's enormous contributions are overlooked. Ukiyo-e is often regarded as the primary source that influenced Impressionism from the East during the Meiji Restoration in the fin de siècle. The East's impact on the West is long-lasting rather than explosive. The critical power of traditional Chinese art and innovations, for example, the moveable type printing, over the evolution of European art movements has yet to be noticed due to political and geographic limitations. Citing paintings by Ma Yuan (1160-1225), Li Song ( active 1190-1230) and Wang Ximeng (1096-1119) in China, Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798- 1861), and Hiroshige (1797- 1858) in Japan, Vincent Van Gogh (1853- 1890) in the Netherlands, and Claude Monet (1840-1926) in France, among others, as examples of specific comparisons and cultural analyses, this article delves into the hidden connections and cultural exchanges, through working on the technical and iconographical forms from ancient China that shaped the European art in the epoch of high modernism.

Investigating the Linguistics Features, Impacts, and Corresponding Strategies of Translation in Feminist Literature

With the growing interest in feminism, feminist translation has become an important field of study. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of feminist translation, focusing on its impact, linguistic characteristics, translation strategies, and applications. It explores how feminist translation critically engages with language to address gender biases and patriarchal norms. The analysis underscores the significance of feminist translation in promoting gender equality and empowering marginalized voices. The discussion on linguistic characteristics highlights how feminist translation scrutinizes gendered language, stereotypes, and linguistic bias. It emphasizes the need to challenge the use of gender-specific terms and advocates for more inclusive language practices. Alternative strategies, such as gender-inclusive language and cultural adaptation, are examined as effective means to challenge linguistic biases and promote equality. Furthermore, the examination of translation strategies delves into the interventions employed by feminist translators. These strategies aim to disrupt patriarchal narratives, expose gender biases, and foster critical dialogue. They include amplifying women's visibility and agency, introducing alternative readings, and incorporating cultural adaptations. The applications of feminist translation in various domains are explored, revealing its impact and transformative potential. Specifically, in literature and arts, feminist translation amplifies marginalized voices, challenges traditional gendered narratives, and facilitates cross-cultural exchange. In legal and political discourse, it addresses gender biases in laws and policy documents. Additionally, feminist translation plays a role in media and activism, disrupting harmful representations and promoting social justice. Feminist translation emerges as a dynamic and transformative practice that confronts gender biases, challenges oppressive discourses, and advocates for gender equality. Using Genshin Impact as an Example, Examining How Local Cultural Embedding Can Enhance the Player's Gaming Experience

This research examines how the “Genshin” game developers organically incorporate culture into their games and improve player experience. Using quantitative methods, researchers analyzed 3 interviews with Genshin users to explore their attitudes and feelings towards the integration of Chinese cultural characteristics into the games. Through this game, many Chinese players have developed a sense of cultural pride, and the developers are very good at the details of the game. This game also spreads Chinese culture to the world. In many foreign websites, such as YouTube, Twitter can see a lot of foreign players comments and suggestions to these games. Also, the age coverage of this game is very wide too. From middle-aged people to high school students, all show a strong interest in this game. Researchers intend to study what kind of indigenous Chinese culture is embedded in this game and to understand how indigenous Chinese culture is organically embedded in the game by comparing game screenshots with real-life photos. Next, it is also necessary to check what kind of attitude players hold towards the embedding of Chinese indigenous culture appearing in Genshin Impact on social media platforms and select a few players to interview. Based on the former, it is important to find out how the embedding of Chinese indigenous culture in the game attracts players and improves their gaming experience. Finally, it will be generalized to the general game development, how a game can attract more players to play and improve the player experience through the organic integration of indigenous culture.
